My Training Plan for the 2013 Tahoe Event
Since the 2014 IM Tahoe was canceled, I'm going to update this for 2015 in anticipation that people will be training (some starting in April) for the race.
I wanted to create this blog to help other people that are training for the IM event in Tahoe and show them what I did to prepare for the event. I know when I was looking for a training plan all I ran into was people that wanted to charge me for the information. I was not willing to pay for this because the event was new and no matter who I asked they were all guessing about how to prepare.
Let me break down a few things. This is all my experience and my take on it, this is not to be used as a one size fits all guide to getting race ready and completing the event. You need to be in good shape to attempt this and I would recommend spending at least a few months before you start the training plan getting your swimming technique, running form, and cycling position dialed in.

• How I did
The first question I get from people is "How was it?" and the second one is "What was your time?" Ok, lets look at the results and then I will build my case for why I arrived when I did. My official time for the race was 13 hours, 36 minutes and 28 seconds. That was not what I wanted to achieve but it was very very close to it. Have a look at the breakdown, or look at what I have provided below.
Each event and transition with times:
• Swim: 01:12:34
1st Transition (AKA T1): 00:19:02
• Bike: 07:25:58
2nd Transition (T2): 00:09:56
• Run: 04:28:58
Looking at the results I knew immediately where my issues were and they were not the incredibly long T1. It was all about the bike time. As much as I thought I was prepared for it, the cold was something that drained most of my energy during the event and caused me to stop more than once to shed clothing and or adjust things to stay warm.
